My Fair London – Hampton Court

Friday 29 April 2011

I am taking a quick opportunity to blog my usual My Fair London post with one eye on the television, completely riveted to the Royal Wedding!! Kate Middleton looks a.m.a.z.i.n.g, very Grace Kelly-esque! I know anything I blog about is going to be a little under-whelming compared to the glitz and glamour that is unfolding but here goes anyway! Today I bring you one of my very favourite palaces, Hampton Court Palace (also hailed as one of King Henry VIII’s  favourites).  The first site of the building always awes me – the monstrous red brick Tudor building with its dramatic turrets and chimney pots! The interior is equally impressive, with a contrast between the simple Tudor elements and more elaborate Baroque decorations. Since I am still a big kid at heart, I must admit that my favourite part of the palace is the maze and the fact that the palace is said to be very haunted! We usually pack a little picnic lunch and spend the day wondering around the palace and snacking in the beautiful gardens! Hope you enjoy the rest of the wedding festivities, I’m off to do some shopping while the shops are quiet!!

My quick prediction!

Ok, so I can’t help myself! I have to make a quick prediction on what Kate Middleton is going to wear… I think it’s going to be something like this: The suspense is killing me!

Beam me up Bali!

Thursday 28 April 2011

I woke up this morning with this uncontrollable urge to go somewhere exotic. I feel the need to be on a beach with whiter-than-rice sand, sipping a piƱa colada with sun-kissed shoulders… sound good? Enter Bali. The 18+ hours of flying has been a bit of a deterrent for me but for the Purist Villas, I’d brave it! I love the fact that these villas have combined traditional Balinese art, timber and trinkets with chic modern architecture.

Here is a little excerpt about the surrounding area:

Ubud is the spiritual and artistic heart of Bali, surrounded by tropical forests and white rivers. The Purist Villas & Spa is located behind a rustic Balinese village, where you can still experience all aspects of traditional rural life. You see the villagers farm and harvest and conducting their Hindu ceremonies of daily offerings, traditional dances and music. In this rural and tropical setting you can fully appreciate the tranquil peacefulness Bali is famous for. The short walk to the centre of Ubud leads through beautiful surrounding rice paddy fields.

A dreamy agenda…

Wednesday 27 April 2011

Today I bring you something a little different but beautiful nonetheless! I came across the dreamy photographs of Mark MacKinnon yesterday and I am completely smitten with them. I adore the soft muted colours and of course, I am a sucker for anything beachy! I am also so excited to see that fantastic art like this is becoming more and more affordable for the masses!
