Love it or hate it?

Thursday 31 March 2011

I just can’t decide! There are elements about the Sanderson Hotel in London that I love (like the quirky chairs, the dark moody bar and the rug in the bedroom) but there is something off about it that I can’t quite put my finger on? Maybe it’s the fact that some of the common areas look a bit chaotic and sparse? I dunno, what do you think?

Window Seat

Wednesday 30 March 2011

I guess we all have an idea of what we want our dream home to look like? My dream home changes from time to time depending on my mood but the one constant feature I won’t compromise on is a window seat! It’s the perfect place to curl up with a cup of coffee and watch the world go by (preferably in front of the sea but I’m really not that fussy)!

Hooty!

Tuesday 29 March 2011

(Apologies for the title, I just couldn’t help myself)! I have a little obsession with all things owl-related, not sure why really, it’s just one of those things I can’t rationalise (have a similar thing with flamingos but that is a story for another day). Anyways, I have noticed that owl merchandise has been popping up everywhere lately, feeding my obsession even more. Here are some of my favourite owl-type things that I found…

Daylight Savings!

Monday 28 March 2011

Ugh. We have gone into daylight savings summer time (=good because it’ll soon be summer but = bad because it means I had to get up an hour earlier this morning)! Luckily I had a really relaxing weekend – we had a tapas dinner on Saturday where we pondered the life cycle of mussels and clams… like how does a mussel/clam make another mussel/clam? Where do they come from? Etc. etc. (Obviously we only debate very important issues in our house)!

To celebrate the turning of the seasons, I bring you a gorgeous house I found on my internet travels this weekend. I love this bright space, it’s bursting with character! Designed by LA based M. Design Interiors, this house reminded me so much of summer!

My Fair London - Architecture

Friday 25 March 2011

Welcome to my first My Fair London post, where each week I will be posting some of my favourite bits of London.

It was really hard choosing the first ‘best bit’ to post because I have so many, so I chose something that I see everyday – different architectural styles. From regal Georgian townhouses to ultra modern Foster buildings, London has it all! I never get tired of taking photos of these buildings (which stand proudly side by side with one another). If you ever visit London, take a minute to really look at the buildings, the detail in some of them will amaze you!

My Fair London

I have a very complex relationship with the city I live in, probably stemming from the fact that I come from a small coastal town on the Garden Route of South Africa. Moving to the cramped, busy, cold lifestyle of London was a huge transition to say the least. Now before we go any further, you should know this about me, before I moved to this city, I had never been on an airplane, I had never worn high heels and most importantly of all, I did not know how to use an escalator! (No, I’m not joking). Of course, 6 years later I am much more adjusted and settled and consider this to be home, well mostly anyways. I still get days of despair and homesickness where I loose sight of everything and wish I was at home, but they are much fewer and far between.

I recently realised that the only way to combat my homesickness was to think about all the amazing bits of this city that make me so excited to be a Londoner – so this is what this post is about. Every week, I will be sharing something that I love about the city I live in! My first post starts tomorrow and I am already so full of ideas!

I really love my sleep! And lots of it! So of course when I am a little stressed, it is the first thing to go awol! I've gotten use to the sleepless nights of tossing and turning by now, in fact I am amazed at how your body is able to adapt to less sleep! But that doesn’t mean I don’t spend the whole day dreaming about soft fluffy beds to curl up on with a good book and a slab of chocolate. Take a look at my 2 dream beds from Anthropologie. Aren't the gorgeous!?

Also, on a completely unrelated note… when I found those gorgeous beds, I also found their blue Spring range! Love the striped blue dress so much it hurts!

Bonjour Cheri!

Wednesday 23 March 2011

It’s now the second week since I have been back from my holiday, I have finally caught up with my washing and my guy has finally put the suitcases back in the loft… and my feet are itching to discover somewhere new! It was a toss up between Germany, Sweden or Switzerland… until I started researching the Dordogne in France. I am completely enchanted!
